Martha Reich - Singer Songwriter & Certified Music Practitioner

Native to New England, Martha Reich has called New Mexico home for the past 20 years.
Her coastal roots and southwest vistas, have infused themselves into the songs and music of the Singer Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
Martha’s music and voice have been compared to icons like Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez, though with her own unique style and signature sound, the honesty and vulnerability of her songs have touched and soothed the most fragile of hearts.

Marthaʼs songs possess an exquisite poetry, capturing the depth of personal and universal subjects, while tapping into something true and real for all that listen deeply with their minds as well as hearts. Inspired by the contradictions of everyday life; Anchored by the truth and beauty of natureʼs elements, Martha is an authentic troubadour. She delivers her songs with beauty, intelligence and honesty that gives new meaning to similar moments in our own lives.

Nature remains her greatest inspiration, whether playing the Guitar, Piano, Ukulele, Dulcimer, or Banjo. Reich’s musical influences include Elton John, Patty Griffin, Ellis Paul and Ani Defranco.

In 2018, Reich received a Gold Medal for Female Vocalist in the Global Music Awards, LA Critics Award for Best Folk Artist and a Clouzine international Music Award for Best Indie Album 'BRAVE BIRD'. Previously winning Global Music Awards in 2017 and 2016, The Southwest Independent Music Award in 2015 and a 2014 New Mexico Music Award for Best Folk Song.

Martha returns with her most personal songs yet on “BRAVE BIRD”.

Each song is an intimate window into her journey from fear to courage—from self-doubt to self-acceptance. After laying the foundation for all the songs using six different instruments, Martha carefully chose complimentary musicians to fill in the sound, including Grammy award winning producer, engineer and guitarist Larry Mitchell.

She has opened for Kate MacLeod, played Festivals to include The Sundance Film Festival, and shared Stages with Melissa Crabtree, Consuelo Luz, Robert Coxon and James Twyman. Her recordings feature Guitarist-Producer Larry Mitchell, Cellist Michael Kott and Gregg Braden on Native Wooden Flute and Guitar.

From her three releases, 'Peter Pan Says' and 'I know a place' were placed in the Independent film 'Piece by Peace'.
Her instrumental version 'Ballad of Buddha Blue' is found on 'Gregg Braden's MUSIC from THE DIVINE MATRIX'.

Martha is also a Certified Music Practitioner, playing for Hospital patients, those in Hospice and people living with Alzheimer's and Cancer.

Her music can be heard on 'PANDORA' Radio, 'Women of Substance Radio' as well as national and international radio stations.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING...

"With a sound almost woven out of the earth, Reich sings from the brittle openings of the heart. To take in the art that comes from such a place opens up our lives in ways that are impossible to measure but so important to hold onto." - James Diaz, Anti-Heroin Chic Magazine.

"Martha Reich’s 'BRAVE BIRD' is Stunning and Heartbreaking. Pulsing, yet sparse instrumentation coupled with hypnotic verses of a quiet yearning spin into the call for something new and the hope that it promises..."
- Jason Davidson of Americana Highways

"Reich has a beautiful tone to her vocals, clear and crisp. She spins her poetic songs akin to a spider weaving its web, so subtle and poetic. Her version of “Over the Rainbow” is as you would expect, as delicate as a flower in bloom. Reich’s guitar work, coupled with cello and JQ Whitcomb’s trumpet set it off in style.  - Maurice Hope, Flyingshoes Review

“Martha Reich sings with the fierce vocal Grace of a James Taylor and the Soulful emotion of a Judy Collins. Perspective words, combined with penetrating sounds, emanate from Martha's acoustic guitar, sure to reverberate the Heartstrings of any awakened Soul.”
- Kimberley Ashley, Fashion & Textile Designer

Her deep roots in traditional folk and story telling shine through each and every one of her original works. Ira Gordon—Host of Santa Fe's KBAC radio—calls Martha "the closet thing to Joni Mitchell that Santa Fe has."

“I love your music” ... Sam Shepard, Playwright and Actor.

" Martha's music transcends tradition and language in a way that is moving, honest, and rare. Each song feels as though she's written it just for you--to tell you something important about life". ... Gregg Braden, NY Times best selling author

“ Martha Reich has a great voice. She is flat out open and honest, and just a bit mesmerizing." ...J.W. McClure, Victory Music Review
